ARTEMISIA Shrug or Shawl
Add a breezy layer to your outfits for a romantic and nature inspired look!
This design in knitted flat in one piece with an all over lace stitch pattern detail that is achieved with a simple 4 rows repeat.
It starts at the left side and then stitches are binded off to knit the back, then new stitches are casted on to knit the right side of the garment.
There are different options to complete this design.
shrug: once the knitting is completed, simple seaming is required to create the juicy sleeves. Option to add a button in the front to keep the garment slightly closed and in place.
shawl: no seaming is required. Option to add an i-cord or a 1x1 (k1,p1) ribbing around the “raw edges” of the shawl
Suggested gauge
18 sts lace pattern = 10 cm washed and blocked. Note that your gauge can differ according to the yarn and needles you’re using and that will not necessarily compromise the fit since this piece has a lot of positive ease.
Suggested needles and notions
Main: 4mm (US 6) circular needles
Ribbing: 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Suggested Yarn
Any lightweight or DK weight yarn. If you want a bigger version use a drapey DK weight yarn
Some suggestions:
-
Natura by Laines du Nord (Composition: 55% Hemp, 45% Cotton 100 g - 225 m - 3,5 oz. - 246 yds) - YOU’LL NEED ABOUT 225 g. (About 500 meters)
-
Lush Lino DK by Cosy Posy Yarn Co. (Composition: 65% silk, 35% linen - 115 g = 245 yds)
My samples are knitted one with Natura by Laines du Nord (color 12) and the other one in a fingering weight yarn, the Organic Merino by Cosy Posy Yarn Co. (color Planter)
When choosing the yarn, consider more that your final fabric is nice and drapey than the actual thickness of the yarn.
Size
This shrug/shawl is worked flat and the pattern is written in one size.
This is my first published pattern, if you have any questions, I’m happy to help!
