The Arthur Vest is inspired by the plaid vest worn by Mr. Weasley in the film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It is a top down construction first knit flat, then in the round. It features a v-neck and a plaid print. First the back yoke is worked with increases for the bottom of the armholes. Then each front shoulder piece is picked up separately, with increases towards the center front to create the v-neck. Once the front shoulders are connected, stitches are increased along the bottom of each armhole. The front and back pieces are then connected with underarm stitches and the rest of the body is knit in the round. The horizontal stripes are knit with the garment, while vertical garter stitches outline where the vertical stripes will be placed. A crochet surface slip stitch technique is used to create the vertical lines. Stitches are picked up along the armholes and neckline and knit in the round to create the ribbing. It is knit using a Worsted weight yarn and 5.5mm needles to meet gauge.

YARN USED:
Cascade Yarns 220 in Camel
Cascade Yarns 220 in Burgundy

GAUGE:
15 sts x 24 rows in stockinette on 5.5mm needles

SIZING:
Sizes are in finished bust measurements
40 (56) 72” // 101 (142) 183 cm

The Arthur Vest is designed to have 5-10” or 12-25 cm of positive ease. Select your size depending on how relaxed or tight fitting you would like your garment to be.

Disclaimer:
There is a lack in sizing due to the repeat of the plaid print. If you wish to knit a smaller size, try going down to a 5mm and 4mm needle size instead, to achieve a larger stitch count per inch. This will also result in a more dense fabric/less drape.
