My dad’s best friend, Art, has been wearing one of my first crocheted beanies for the last 5 years. This was before I learned the magic of knitted rib beanies. I immediately sought out to create the perfect beanie for this knit-worthy person. He loves close-fitting hats, and an adjustable folded brim was just the way to achieve this.

I designed this hat to fit a wide range of sizes. This features decrease styling similar to my “Thumbnail Hat” with the rib texture incorporated. Art wanted a classic red, white, and blue style, so I included instructions on how to achieve clean stripes in this pattern.

Sizes: Small (Medium, Large)
Finished circumference of 16 (17, 18.5)” / 41 (43, 47) cm.
Made to fit head circumference: 15.5-18 (18.5-19, 19.5-20.5)” / 39-46 (47-48, 50-52) cm.
Finished depth (before folding the brim): 12.5 (13.5, 13.5)” / 32 (34, 34) cm OR 11.75 (12.75, 12.75)” / 30 (32, 32) cm. There are instructions to decrease overall hat depth in the pattern.

Gauge: 24 sts x 27 rounds = 4”x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in
2 x 2 ribbing (k2, p2) on a US 6/4 mm needle using DK weight yarn, after blocking.

Yarn:
Color A (Brim): 45 (50, 50) g/111 (137, 137) yds/101 (125, 125) m of DK weight yarn.
Color B (Body): 10 (12, 12) g/27 (33, 33) yds/25 (30, 30) m of DK weight yarn.
Color C (Crown): 15 (20, 20) g/42 (55, 55) yds/39 (50, 50) m of DK weight yarn.
OR
70 (90, 90) g/195 (250, 250) yds/178 (230, 230) m of DK weight yarn.

The striped sample is knit in Kelbourne Woolens Scout (100% Wool 100 g/274 yds/250 m) in colors Scarlet Heather (A), Natural (B), and Navy Heather (C) in size Large.

The solid sample is knit in Supernova Dye Works Oculus DK (80% SW Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon 100 g/230 yds/210 m) in color Rainbow Storyteller in size Small.
