Arya Slipover top-down is a tribute to my very first knitting design – the Arya slipover, which is worked from the bottom up. As this design continues to delight so many knitters to this day, I wanted to revisit its distinctive look and transform it into a modern top-down construction.

The distinctive charm of the original has been kept, but the construction is completely new. Instead of being worked from the bottom up, the Arya Slipover top-down is now worked seamlessly top down, combining the familiar look with a modern fit and a relaxed knitting experience.

First, you start with the back piece, before shaping the armholes with increases. Next, the front section is worked, featuring a deep, round neckline that lends the slipover its feminine lightness. Both pieces are joined and the body is initially worked in rounds. For the side slits, the front and back are separated again and worked separately, with the slightly longer back giving the design a subtle mullet-style touch and a wonderfully relaxed silhouette.

Finally, stitches are picked up for the neckline and armholes and framed with a beautiful pattern featuring a harmonious alternating knit-and-purl effect. This special detail adds to the slipover’s distinctive character and stylishly completes the design.
Arya Slipover top-down is a garment that effortlessly combines elegance with everyday wear. Whether worn formally over a blouse or casually with a T-shirt or dress – it can be styled in endless ways and will accompany you through every season.

Maybe you’ve already made the first Arya slipover and will recognise lots of familiar details. Or perhaps this is the first time you’ve come across this design. Either way, this project is waiting for you – it’s not only a relaxing knit, but it also rewards you, stitch by stitch, with the feeling that you’re creating something truly special – a timeless favourite with lovely details that you’ll love wearing time and time again.

Size guide
To determine the right size for you, you should measure your chest circumference. After washing and blocking, the Arya Slipover top-down has a positive ease of approx. 12-15 cm.
For example: If your chest circumference measures 95 cm, you should choose size M. The Arya Slipover top-down in size M has a chest circumference of approx. 108 cm (after washing and blocking). If you prefer less positive ease, choose a smaller size. I am 1,67 m tall, have a chest circumference of 88 cm and have worked sizes S.
