As-You-Go Cardi
Skill Level: Easy / Advanced Beginner
The As-You-Go Cardi is all about making a cardigan that fits you, without worrying about matching gauge.
Start with two simple granny stitch hexagons, work them to the size you need, and join them together. From there, add as much length to the body and sleeves as you like, then finish with ribbed edges.
You can try it on and adjust the fit as you go, making it easy to create your own version. It’s also a great way to use up leftover yarn and play with color combinations — or keep it simple with one solid color!
Sizes: XS–5XL
Recommended Yarn: #3 Light / DK weight. Also suitable for #2 Fine or #4 Medium weight yarn.
Hook used for sample: US I/9 (5.5 mm)
Gauge: 12 stitches × 6 rows = 4 × 4 in (10 × 10 cm) in granny stitch.
Exact gauge is not required. This is a measurement-based pattern, so you can adjust the size, length, and fit as you crochet.
Approximate yarn requirements (#3 Light / DK weight):
XS – 745 yd main + 165 yd each of 4 colors (1,400 yd total)
S – 820 yd main + 180 yd each (1,540 yd total)
