This blanket is inspired by wooden carvings from the viking era from the 11th and 12th century. The Urnes style is characterised by slim and stylised animals that are interwoven into tight patterns. The animal heads are seen in profile, and there are upwardly curled appendages on the noses and the necks. And runes are included. These were the alphabets known before the adoption of the Latin alphabet. The Scandinavian runes were known as futhark, derived from the first six letters of the alphabet.

The technique is interlocking crochet, the finished blanket measures approx 1,40 x 1,70m when using a 3mm hook.

The pattern includes a graph, each row described stitch by stitch, and general information on the technique plus a photo guide on how to start a project.
