The Áth Scarf is part of my Ardee Collection. This four-piece collection is inspired by the battle between Cú Chulainn and Ferdia in the Irish epic Táin Bó Cúailnge (“Cattle Raid of Cooley”). The entire collection uses super chunky yarn and Celtic motifs to depict the two warriors and the landscape.
The inspiration for this pattern is the ford (áth) where Cú Chulainn and Ferdia battled, which takes on a character of its own in the telling of their battle and Ferdia’s doom. Cables from Melissa Leapman’s Cables Untangled capture the flow of the water and the links between the two warriors.

Pay What You Can I’ve introduced a permanent discount scheme that will help keep my designs accessible to a range of budgets while also pricing them in a way that reflects the investment put into my designs and craft.

Using super chunky yarn and size US15/10mm needles, this scarf works up quickly. If using Malabrigo Rasta or another hand-dyed yarn, you may want to alternate skeins to avoid any pooling of colour. This pattern is written and charted.
