One of my favorite previous designs of all time is the AttaGirl Sweater as it is so very wearable. I have made 4 of these as cardigans and wear them spring, summer and fall-over T-shirts and dresses. The open lacework mesh sections really do allow for airflow so, although you are holding yarn double, it does not make you feel warm. This sweater is dedicated to women: daughters, sisters, mothers, grandmothers and friends who are twined together in a common, supportive thread.

Marled is defined in the urban dictionary as: A smart intelligent gorgeous young female. She has this thing about her, that the more you’re around her, the more you fall in love with her. AttaGirl is an expression of congratulations or praise directed at a female.

PATTERN NOTES: This sweater is worked in two colors of fingering weight yarn held together for a marled effect. Worked top down with raglan shaping, the top’s body is in a simple YO, K2tog mesh. The sleeves are stockinette stitch.

EASE: Intended to be worn with 2-4” (5-10 cm) positive ease. To achieve this, please choose a size that is 2-4” (5-10 cm) bigger than your bust/chest circumference

YARN: 2 (3, 3, 3)(3, 4, 4)(4, 4, 5)(5, 5) skeins EACH of 2 colors in fingering weight yarn (437 yds/400 m per 100 g) HELD DOUBLE THROUGHOUT, approximately 789 (885, 970, 1087)(1202, 1312, 1463)(1562, 1651, 1785)(1880, 1956) yds/722 (810, 887, 994)(1100, 1200, 1338)(1429, 1510, 1633)(1720, 1789) m EACH color for a total of 1577 (1771, 1940, 2173)(2403, 2625, 2925)(3125, 3302, 3569)(3761, 3912) yds/1443 (1620, 1774, 1987)(2198, 2401, 2675)(2858, 3020, 3264)(3440, 3578) m.

NOTE: One strand of DK weight yarn in one color (255 yds 233 m per 100 g) may also be used in this pattern if you prefer a non-marled effect, approximately 789 (885, 970, 1087)(1202, 1312, 1463)(1562, 1651, 1785)(1880, 1956) yds/722 (810, 887, 994)(1100, 1200, 1338)(1429, 1510, 1633)(1720, 1789) m.

SAMPLE 1 – (Prototype) (size 41.25) was knit HELD DOUBLE using Rohrspatz & Wollmeise Pure (100% Superwash Merino; 574 yds/525 m per 150g) in colorway: Clementine and Knit Picks Stroll fingering weight (75% Superwash merino/25% nylon) 462 yds/422 m per 100 grams in colorway: Bare. (Cropped length; Worked to 11” (28 cm) from underarm to hem).

SAMPLE 2 (size 44.25) was knit HELD DOUBLE using Factory Girl Designs Draft fingering weight (100% Superwash Merino; 437 yd/400 m per 100 g, 3-ply) in colorways Peony Pink and Tangelo weighing 500 grams and using 1092 yds/999 m per color. (Regular length; Worked to 15” (38 cm) from underarm to hem).
