The Augur cowl combines diagonal ribbing and corrugated ribbing techniques for a stranded colorwork experience that’s a bit off the beaten path. Unlike traditional one-color diagonal ribbing, this two-color variant maintains some texture and depth even after blocking.
Inspired by Igor Stravinsky’s ballet The Rite of Spring, I wanted this cowl to embody the iconic pulsating orchestral accents from the Act I section “Augurs of Spring” in a palette fitting of the early spring.

Techniques Used in This Pattern:

  • Knit/Purl
  • Stranded colorwork knit flat
  • Long-tail cast on
  • K2tbl (knit 2 together through the back loop)
  • Latvian braid
  • Mattress stitch seaming

The colorways used for this pattern include some from Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Sport as well as Knit Picks High Desert Sport:

  • Blackberry (WOTA)
  • Cobblestone (WOTA)
  • Green Tea (WOTA)
  • Pampas Heather (WOTA)
  • Campion (High Desert)
  • Woodsmoke (High Desert)

If using all of these suggested colors, none will take more than one skein for any of the given sizes in the pattern.
