It’s a cowl version of Aux!

Auks cowl has a pretty straight up-and-down tubular construction.

It’s knit in the round, and features two of the motifs from the corresponding shawl design, rewritten for circular knitting.

It’s also reversible, in case you feel like knitting lace and then hiding it. And this time, reversibility extends to the drawstring, which is possibly a little unnecessary; I just think it’s neat.

Work in a main color (MC) and a contrast (CC).
Work is entirely in the round for this project, and you’ll only need one circular needle.

My main color choice has some marling/gradient effects. A tonal or solid yarn would work almost equally well, but the gradient look on the reverse side is pretty nice.

GAUGE:
Gauge is 24 sts and 36 rounds in 4”/10cm in blocked stockinette. Please be sure to check your gauge. A cowl will forgive a larger gauge, but not a smaller one.

MATERIALS:

  • For base cowl with no liner: 180yds/33g CC (Juliespins Euro Fingering in Packham Pear); 360yds/82g MC (Cascade Heritage Wave in Colorway 504/Nightshade); for complete cowl, 180 yds/33g CC and 690yds/157g MC.

  • 1 24”+ circular needle in US3-4/3.25-3.5mm, or size needed for gauge.

  • 1 spare circular needle, 16-24”, in same size needed for gauge or one size smaller

  • 2 DPNs in size needed for gauge
