According to an Aboriginal legend, the Kookaburra’s famous chorus of laughter every morning is a signal for the sky people to light the great fire that illuminates and warms the earth by day.

The legend captures the imagination, but the true function of the familiar cacophony is to advertise the territory of this bold bird.

Laughing Kookaburras feed mostly on insects, worms and crustaceans, although small snakes, mammals, frogs and birds may also be eaten.

These most social birds will accept handouts from humans and will take meat from barbecues!

Knit this little fellow for yourself or as a gift for loved ones. Its not hard and very satisfying!
