Construction
Cuff-down: these socks are cast on at the cuff and worked in the round to the heel. The cuff is a 1 x 1 rib and the leg is a lace pattern worked from the chart or written instructions.

Heel flap & gusset: the heel is knitted on odd number of approximately half of the stitches, and worked in rows (to create a rectangular heel flap) in slipstitch (see Sock elements: Heels), then simple short rows are used to shape the heel turn. Stitches are picked up along each side of the heel flap and the gusset is worked in the round, decreasing at each side of the foot for the gusset shaping.

Foot: the foot is then worked in rounds with the lace pattern continued on just the instep sts.

Toe: the classic wedge toe (see Sock elements: Toes) is shaped with simple decreases and the toe seam is closed with a Kitchener stitch graft.

Project notes
The heel flap is worked over an odd number of stitches so pay attention when instructed to turn for the heel. Note that the stitch count varies over different rounds for the lace
pattern.
