This pumpkin is worked in the round from the bottom up and can be customized in height, width, and weight of yarn used. This pumpkin is named for its leafy pattern and alternates between single crochet and the spike stitch to create a lovely texture. The simple and repetitive texture will let variegated yarns sing while also being suitable for solid colorways.

Size: 2.8”/7.1 cm tall x 5.0”/12.7 cm wide finished

Gauge: Rounds 1 through 10 should equal 4”

Note: Gauge is not crucial for this pattern as long as your stitches don’t have gaps in between. Having a different gauge will affect the overall size of your pumpkin and the amount of yarn needed.

Materials needed:

  • US 7/4.50mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Palouse Yarn Company Owyhee Aran, weight 4/medium (100% merino, 100 g/3.5 oz, 180 yds/164 m), 105 yds/96 m
  • Stitch marker (optional)
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle (a 5” weaving needle makes creating the indents easier!)
  • Fiber fill
  • Stick, cinnamon stick, or leather/faux leather for the pumpkin stem
  • Paper-wrapped floral wire (optional)
  • Leather/faux leather pumpkin leaf (optional)

Skills needed:

  • Working in the round
  • Increasing/decreasing
