I love to hike. Walking up hills and into the woods with my dogs gives me a sense of peace. Anytime I am in distress (or just stressed out), I take a hike and walk until I feel better. The beauty of the woods and fields, the majesty of the mountains and streams, the easy drift of an old jeep road; all of these work their way into my soul and replace all those bad feelings. This hat represents the beauty I’ve found this fall as the leaves turned and dropped and the landscape slowly changed from the brilliant colors of summer to the muted nostalgia of autumn. The skein of yarn I picked for the body represents all those colors I find in my autumn hills, and I recommend finding one that can represent those colors for you.

This pattern has been test-knitted.

You only need about 25-40 yards of DK weight wool for the trail and 10 yards of the bulky for the three leaves.

If you tend to knit a little loosely, you will want to use size 7 needles instead of size 8.

I hope you enjoy knitting this hat as much as I enjoyed designing it!
