Ava was fully inspired by a piece that I found in a shift store last year. The shaping was so interesting and flattering that I decided to reproduce it (without including the lace details). So it all started with measuring the jumper. I took as many measurements as I could. Then I needed to find a suitable yarn for it. I wanted something airy, sheepy and naturally dyed. So Emma of Woolly Mammoth fibres came straight to my mind. I had used some of her BFL/Masham base for a little hat that I had knit Iris with, and I thought that that yarn could work perfectly well.

Ava is knit bottom up in the round (starting with a provisional CO), then front and back are divided and knit flat. The neckline on this jumper was my favourite thing to knit. How much fun it was! I loved the whole process from bind off stitches on each front, to picking up stitches for the neckline, to knitting the 2X2 ribbing and then the stockinette stitch portion for the rolled neckline.

The jumper is cropped as I intended it to be worn over long dresses ( it’s such a perfect layering piece of Spring and Fall). But you could of course make a longer version.
