Ava completes my potted plant trio – there’s Sammy the Succulent, Fig the Bonsai (both sold separately) and now Ava the Rose! A cute, quick and almost no-sew pattern. It’s just the leaves to sew!

Ava is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in English using US (American) terminology. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.

Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished items. My Ava is approx. 15cm tall (5 ¾ inches).

You will need:

  • 2.75mm hook/C-2 (US)
  • 8ply yarns/DK or Light Worsted > less than 50g yarn in WINE, BLUE, LIGHT BLUE, and GREEN
  • BLACK 4ply yarn or embroidery thread
  • A pair of 8mm plastic safety eyes
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Polyester toy stuffing
  • Stitch marker (optional)

Notes:

  • Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
  • When changing colour, yarn over the new colour and pull through on the stitch prior.
  • Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
  • Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your item. My Ava is approx. 15cm tall (5 ¾ inches).
  • For this pattern, the following yarns were used: o WINE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 444 Raspberry Pink o BLUE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 434 Marine Blue o LIGHT BLUE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 433 Washed Teal o GREEN = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 430 Grass Green
  • I have used plastic safety eyes for this pattern but you may choose to embroider. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
