Aviva, Hebrew word for springtime, is a lacy spring cardigan. The elegant lacy body is accentuated by German rib collars and hems. Aran weight yarn combined with a simple 2row repeat of lace pattern makes this cardigan a quick knit.

Aviva has a very different construction. The back is knitted up and the neck stitches are bound off. The two fronts are knitted separately and then seamed to the back. Collar is knib by picking up stitches along the fronts and the neck.

Note about yarn substitution:

  1. Though Knit Picks Swish Tonal is listed as Worsted weight, it knits up like an Aran weight yarn.
  2. The lace pattern needs to be stretched while blocking and this works out well if you use yarn which has some memory, like wool or wool blends. If you are substituting yarn, please check and double-check your post-blocking gauge.
  3. Cotton might not stretch enough while blocking and you might end up with a smaller cardigan than desired.

Gauge:

11 sts and 20 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Vertical Lace Trellis stitch pattern, post blocking.

Gauge in stockinette is listed for reference only. It is critical to get gauge in lace pattern. Take time to check your gauge in lace pattern.
