The Avonbeg shawl has a fun swing and drape with the added bonus of optional fringe attached to the bottom edge. The cable and lace pattern reminded me of stream flowing over rocks. The name Avonbeg comes from the Gaelic for “small river”.

The cable and lace border of this crescent shaped shawl is worked first from end to end. Then stitches are picked up along the inside edge and garter stitch short rows shape the body of the shawl.

Gauge is not critical for this project, but will affect the size of the finished product and the amount of yarn needed.

Materials needed:
-575 yds / 525 m of DK yarn
-US size 6 / 4.0 mm straight or circular needles and US size 7 / 4.5 mm 32” / 80 cm circular needles
-Cable needle; stitch marker (optional); tapestry needle; crochet hook
