My favorite trick for wearing cowls - with Awakener as example
The Awakener is a crochet cowl featuring an easy-to-make and beautiful stitch pattern. All my samples of this cowl are worked in lace-weight yarn, and even after all these years, I still cannot find a stitch I like better for such thin yarns.
This stitch pattern mainly uses sc3tog with a tiny modification that creates a leaf-like look on the right side and a different but equally interesting texture on the wrong side. The cowl can be worn with either side showing.
Perfectionist crocheters might be pleased with the technique used for the last row, which mimics the polished, cord-like foundation edge at the beginning.

You can adjust the width of the cowl by working fewer or more sts. The length can be adjusted by working fewer or more repeats of the st patt.
I create new crochet stitches to show a quieter, softer side of crochet: calm, simple, and casual. My patterns may look unusual at first only because the technique is new to you, just like your first chain or single crochet once was. After a little practice, it feels easy and natural.
