Both written and charted versions included. Pattern is in English.

Difficulty: Medium to advanced. Both RS and WS rows are charted.

When using gradients, make sure you have a healthy amount of solid end colour, so you don’t get a visible line when you work the last corner. Basic pattern as shown used 70 g or 613 yards (560 m). 12 g was used for the edge alone. This will differ with different yarn, needles, tension and number of repeats worked. The heavier the yarn, the more yarn you’ll need for the final edge! Fingering weight yarn may take as much as 30 % of the total for the final edge.

Size: As desired. Work until you are happy with the size.

Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle or the needle you need to get a fabric you like.

Other notions: Stitch markers. Darning needle. The pattern has some cable crossings, but they are worked without cable needle.

Construction: The shawl is worked in one piece from the right tip to the left edge with a wide knitted on bind off at the end. The bottom tip is worked last. No provisional CO used.
You can work it in 3 different ways:

  1. As shown above, with star pattern over most of the body of the shawl and then ending with a few rows of flowers.
  2. Stars all over, omitting flower chart entirely.
  3. Flowers all over, with only a few star stitch rows to begin with.

The files available are:

  • A “basic pattern” file, containing the charts and written pattern for working the shawl exactly as shown (green shawl). This version is much easier to work than the “advanced version”, but it will not give you the opportunity to change size.
  • An “advanced charts version”, containing only charts, with instructions for how to make the shawl yours - you can adjust size and work more or less repeats of flowers or stars.
  • An “advanced written version”, containing only the written pattern, with instructions for how to make the shawl yours.

You can work the shawl as large or as small as you want to.
