Axelia Triangular Shawl is worked from the top down.
The shawl takes on the shape of a triangle by adding stitches on the sides and a double number in the middle.
I fell in love with this diamond-shaped design. It contains elements of lace as well as structure. I love simple at the same time eye-catching design patterns that enjoy knitting. This one is like that.
To work a shawl, you should know the following intermediate techniques: reading charts, cables, basic decreases (ssk; k2tog), and increase (yo).
Please note: the stitch pattern in this shawl is charted only. Any chart have written description in convenient format even for beginners.
The description is detailed and edited to guide you through the process of making the scarf step by step. To help you plan your shawl this pattern contains several helpful sections:
• a diagram showing how the pattern sections will be used,
• the individual charted sections together on one page,
• line-by-line, written instructions beside each chart.
Yarn
The sample is worked in Flowers of YarnArt (1094 yds (1000 m)/ 8.82 Oz (250g)). Pattern calls about 980 yards (900 meters) fingering weight yarn. You can use another fingering weight gradient yarn of similar yardage e.g. Whirl of Scheepjes. You can also use a one-colour yarn. Depending on your preferences and needs, you can also use yarn of a different thickness, e.g. thinner or thicker. A shawl made with either type will look wonderful. In this case, remember to adjust the dimensions accordingly.
By simply adding more repeats of the sections, you can make a shawl as large as you wish. A 1 skein Flowers of YarnArt can be used to make a maximum of one additional section.
Needles
32’’ (80 cm) or longer circular needle, size 6 US (4.0 mm). It might be easier to start the shawl with a shorter cable of 24” (60 cm) or normal straight needle and switch to a longer cable when the stitch count increases.
Others
6 stitch markers (2 in one color or shape) and 4 (in the other color or shape). It is not recommended to separate individual elements with markers, the diamond pattern allows you to easily identify the beginning of the next section. To bind off, I advise you to use crochet hook size 8 US (5.0 mm), you can use the needles too.
Finished Measurements
After gently blocking – 63.0” (160 cm) wingspan along top edge, 29.5” (75 cm) deep. Gauge is not critical here so size may vary a little.
The pattern was tested. Many thanks to perfect test knitters from The Testing Pool: wollhimmel and kohlegrill.
