A beautiful, classic cable-knit sweater in Atlas by Sandnes Garn. Despite its intricate appearance, it knits up quickly thanks to its generous gauge, while the thoughtfully balanced cable motif leaves room for some satisfying memory knitting.
The back features a beautiful shoulder line, framed by a travelling cable that sweeps down to the hem. This elegant detail is worked using a European shoulder construction: first, the back is worked to the underarm. Stitches are then picked up at the shoulders, and the front is worked from the shoulders down, using short rows to shape the neckline, until the two sides are joined at the front. The front is continued to the underarm, where it is joined to the back so the body can be worked in the round.
When worked flat, all cable crossings and shaping take place on right-side rows, leaving the wrong-side rows to be knitted as the stitches appear. This makes for an engaging and rewarding knitting experience, with steady progress and a little breathing room between the more intricate rows.
The sleeves are picked up around the armholes and worked down to the cuffs, featuring the same beautiful cable motif as the front. For ease of knitting, each size has its own set of charts for the back, front, sleeves, and body.

NEEDLES
— 4 mm circular needle for the body (or needle size to obtain gauge).
— 3.5 mm circular needle for the hem and cuffs (or 0.5 below-sized gauge to obtain gauge).
— 3.25 mm circular needle for the collar (or one size smaller than the needle used for the hem and cuffs).
You can use different cable lengths to work the body and sleeves, or DPNs for the smaller circumferences. I used circular needles throughout, with the following cable lengths: 100 cm for the body, 30 cm for both sleeves, 40 cm for the collar, and an asymmetric 23 cm circular needle for the cuffs.
