I was inspired to make this sweater for a longtime family friend. She had been the caregiver for my youngest daughter, now nine years old, since my daughter was four months old. Now our friend is having her own baby! A baby sweater is the perfect gift for her and her little one. They are calling her soon-to-be-born baby boy their little bear cub. Thus, that is what I called my pattern.

I chose the broken rib pattern for the sweater after I saw it in a sock pattern book and wanted to use it in a project. I love this stitch pattern. It is easy to knit and gives a lovely and interesting texture. I chose to make the sweater in blue because it is my favorite color and because a bright color is a bold choice for babies.
