Baby Flutter
BABY FUTTER
Soft, cozy baby booties – a small and beginner-friendly knitting project
Baby Futter is a sweet pair of soft baby booties, worked from the top down and entirely back and forth in rows.
The booties begin with a simple 2 × 2 ribbed cuff. The work is then divided to create the instep before all stitches are rejoined. Finally, the sole is shaped with simple decreases and can be finished in one of two ways: by binding off and seaming, or by knitting the two halves together while binding off.
The step-by-step construction and clearly marked stitch-count checkpoints make Baby Futter a manageable project for newer knitters who are ready to practice a few basic construction techniques.

Construction
The baby booties are worked top down and flat.
First, the cuff is worked in 2 × 2 ribbing. The work is then divided into three sections, with the center stitches worked separately to form the instep.
All stitches are subsequently rejoined and worked together again. The sole is shaped with decreases around two stitch markers and then closed either by seaming or by knitting the two halves together while binding off.
Yarn
The pattern is worked holding 2 strands together:
Baby Alpaca & Pima Cotton by MosterMoster
50 g = 150 m / 164 yd
1 (1) 1 ball
held together with:
Silk Mohair by MosterMoster
25 g = 200 m / 219 yd
1 (1) 1 ball
Needles & Notions
3 mm knitting needles, preferably a circular needle
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle for finishing
Gauge
26 sts × 38 rows = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4 in
Worked using 3 mm needles with 1 strand Baby Alpaca & Pima Cotton and 1 strand Silk Mohair held together.
Yarn Substitution
You may substitute the original yarns with other yarns that produce the same gauge and a similarly soft, lightweight fabric.
For the closest result, choose one smooth, soft base yarn together with a fine mohair or other lace-weight fluffy yarn and hold the two strands together throughout.
Always make a gauge swatch when substituting yarn, as differences in fiber content, yarn construction and tension can affect both the finished size and the amount of yarn required.
Yarn Usage
The stated yarn quantities are estimates based on the original yarns used for the design. Actual yarn usage may vary depending on your individual tension, yarn choice and any modifications made to the pattern.
Perfect for a Small Handmade Gift
Baby Futter is a quick and satisfying little project and a lovely way to create a soft, handmade gift for a new baby.
