Look at this fun family of whales - baby whale, mama whale and daddy whale - or whatever you want them to be!!

The UPDATED LAST PHOTO is this pattern made with Sweet Snuggles Lite yarn and 30mm safety eyes. I have also updated the PDF (Aug 2025) to make notes about using the jumbo blanket yarn for this pattern.

These are from about 4” to 12” (for the body/ball part)

You can change the colors and make a bunch of whales!

Fully written out pattern with photos and a good beginner crochet pattern. 9-Page PDF with pattern modifications to make all 3 sizes.

Materials: In my original versions, I used my size G/4mm hook for most and 4-ply worsted weight yarn like Red Heart and Caron in aqua, pink and blue with some white and light pink on the bottoms. I have used 3 different types of eyes – crochet, buttons and safety eyes so you can pick.

On my updated versions, this pattern was modified for some of the #5 and #6 Bulky blanket type yarns on the market that are super soft and squishy and my size J hook. They also work up super quick making them great for gifts and shows. I have used primarily 2 different brands” Sweet Snuggles Lite yarn from Loops & Threads and HiMalaya Dolphin Baby. Sweet Snuggles Lite is harder to find for me now and you may have the same trouble, but Chenille Home Slim seems to be exactly the same yarn.

This is such an easy pattern! It is basically a “ball” that you add side fins and a tail. The tail is crocheted in one piece so there is very little sewing/assembly.

There are 3 sizes! These would be fun made in cotton for a baby teething toy or to add rattle boxes inside.

The small guy measures about 4” – the pink about 5” and the large about 7”. This does not include the tail – that is just the round body.

I do have lots of tips and tricks and give you where/what round I have everything placed.

If you have amigurumi knowledge and know how to work in the round - ex. 6,12,18,24 etc with increases and decreases you won’t have any trouble.

If you are a beginner, this should still be a very easy pattern - I spell out all the increases and decreases.

I am here all to help and support you in any way I can after you download my pattern.
