This KAL was designed especially for the Bay Area Knitting Guild in the Tampa Bay Area as the 2024 KAL aimed at teaching and exposing knitters to new stitch techniques throughout the year. We encourage knitters of all levels to join us for this experience! You do not have to be a BAKG member to knit this cowl up – it’s free to everyone! Please create a project page!

The Infinity Cowl pattern is written for light-fingering to fingering weight yarn aimed at having the fabric be light, drapey and cozy when worn. The pattern is customizable for width, length and style. There are options for connecting for a cowl or not connecting for a scarf.

There will be 10 different stitch patterns featured, with a “divider” stitch pattern between each month. The schedule of pattern releases is further down. The pattern will be released on the 4th Saturday after the BAKG Guild Meeting (4th Thurs), and our goal is to be completed by Thanksgiving 2024. The first Pattern to be released in Dec 2023.

Cowl Sample Details
The Pink-Blue-Cream version is the Wide-Short version, and it was worked in Universal Yarns, Bella Cash. Universal Yarns categorized this yarn as sport weight, but it looks and feels like fingering. The colors are Blush, Sage & Oat.

The Blue-Cream version is the Narrow-Long version, and it was worked up in Olive & Two Ewe, Twain. The colors are Check Out the Hook (blue tonal) and Young-Woo (white speckled).

The 4 lengths and approximate yardage are:
Wide-Short = 14 x 52 in (35.5 x 132 cm), using between 9 to 16 g of yarn for each month’s sample (Total yarn approx. 650 yds, 140 g)
Wide-Long = 14 x 65 in (35.5 x 165 cm), using between 10 to 20 g of yarn for each month’s sample (Total yarn approx. 790 yds, 170 g)
Narrow-Short = 10 x 52 in (25.5 x 132 cm), using between 7 to 13 g of yarn for each month’s sample (Total yarn approx. 560 yds, 120 g)
Narrow-Long = 10 x 65 in (25.5 x 165 cm), using between 9 to 16 g of yarn for each month’s sample (Total yarn approx. 650 yds, 140 g)

Recommended Yarn
When choosing yarn for this project, look at each month’s stitch sampler and envision how the color will showcase the stitches. I would avoid highly variegated yarns and very dark colors. Solids, tonals, fades/ombres, and lightly speckled yarns that are on the lighter-medium hue are good choices. Work up a swatch to test your choice(s).

The cowl can be worked-up in one color up to 11 different colors. If one color is chosen, you will need a scant amount of a contrast color as the alternate color in the Mosaic Slip-Stitch pattern.
