This sweater takes the knitter to the stormy shores of the Baltic Sea, where dark clouds rise to majestic heights and great waves crash against the rocky coast. Yet the light of the familiar lighthouse brings safety and comfort for the seasoned sailor.

The Baltic Storm Sweater is knitted top-down with a round yoke construction, shaped with German short rows. The sweater is designed to have approx. 15 cm (or 6 in) of positive ease. It has a relaxed double-folded collar and the 1x1 ribbing repeats in the cuffs and the hem. The clouds and the seascape are worked in stranded colorwork with three colors using the ladder-back jacquard (LBJ) technique. Finally, the details on the lighthouse and the waves are embroidered.

The pattern includes well-structured and detailed instructions with colorwork charts for different sizes showing the LBJ placement, and links to helpful tutorials. It also includes suggestions on how to alter the length of the body and the sleeves.
The pattern is recommended for more experienced knitters who are familiar with stranded colorwork and excited to learn new techniques, and would love to add a wearable piece of art to their wardrobe! Due to the complexity of the colorwork motif, the pattern is not recommended for beginners in spite of having clear instructions.

NEEDLES

SUGGESTED YARN
The sweater is worked holding one strand of light fingering weight merino and one strand of silk mohair together. If you substitute to DK weight yarn, note that you’ll still need yellow silk mohair for the lightbeam. Please note that adjusting the lengths of the body and the sleeves will affect the amount of yarn you’ll need.
