“Books and all forms of writing have always been objects of terror to those who seek to suppress truth.”― Wole Soyinka

Between January 1st and August 31st of 2022, the American Library Association documented nearly 700 instances of formal attempts to restrict library resources, which included targeting over 1600 unique titles. This is the highest documented rate in the 20 years that the ALA has tracked this data. Books featuring Black, Brown, Indigenous, and/or LGBTQ+ stories have been disproportionately targeted.

Screw that. Ban Bigots, Not Books.

The Ban Bigots Not Books Hat is the second pattern in the Let It Burn Collection by Lattes & Llamas. You can find the Read Banned Books Cowl HERE.

Suggested Yarn
Lattes & Llamas Geek-A-Long Yarn (100 grams/ 328 yards) or a comparable sport weight yarn in five contrasting colorways. Approximately 35g each of colors A&B, and 15g each colors C, D, and E.

Sample is knit in Lattes & Llamas Geek-A-Long Sport Weight in Palpatine (color A; black), Bard of Avon (color B; Tan), Red Cape (color C; red), Magic Item (color D; dark orange), and Deepsea Speedo (color E; Bright Orange).

The yardage listed above is estimated and may vary depending on yarn used, gauge variations, or
modifications.

Needles
US3 / 3.25 mm & US4 / 3.5 mm: Hat can be worked on 16” circular needles, extra long circular needles (to work in magic loop), or DPNs.

Gauge
29 sts and 34 rounds = 4” in stranded colorwork on the larger needles and stockinette on the smaller. Gauge should be taking on a blocked swatch, worked in the round. Note: I like a tight gauge on hats. If you prefer a looser gauge, you can opt to knit a smaller size at a larger gauge.

Sizing
Size 1(2, 3, 4) = 18(20, 22, 24) inch circumference and a height of 7.5(8, 8.5, 9) inches.

Notions
Four Stitch Markers; Tapestry Needle
