Alice Paul was a key figure in the women’s suffrage movement in the United States. Born in 1885, she was raised in a Quaker family, which influenced her strong beliefs in equality. Paul played a crucial role in advocating for the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote in 1920. She was known for her bold strategies, including protests and hunger strikes, to fight for women’s rights.

Alice founded the National Women’s Party and continued to work for women’s rights throughout her life, including fighting for the Equal Rights Amendment that would guarantee equal rights.

gauge 8 stitches/inch on 2.25 mm (US 1) circular needles.

sizing 1 (2,3) - which fits a foot circumference of (unstretched) 7 inches (7.5 inches, 8 inches) around.

yarn The sample is knit from Trekking XXL (undyed). I would recommend a 3-4 ply sock yarn that will give you a gauge of 28.0 to 32.0 sts/4 inches. The stitch pattern will complement just about any yarn color you choose to use.

Sample: 1 Ball Trekking XXL 75% Wool, 25% Nylon 459 yards/100g.

materials

US 1 (2.25) circular knitting needles (or size needed to get gauge), I recommend at least 32 inches (my preferred length). You can substitute DPNs and 9-inch circulars for circulars as well and I’ll show you how.
100 grams of fingering-weight sock yarn.
Stitch marker or locking stitch marker (optional)
Ruler or measuring tape.
Darning needle.
Sock blockers to photograph your socks once you’re done! (optional).

notes

This pattern is written for magic loop, but can easily be changed to DPNs. Use 2 needles for N1, and another 2 for N2. If you’re using 9-inch circulars, there will be notes throughout to guide you.
