Notes from the Designer:

The design of this shawl emphasizes long spikes of flowers that radiate from its center, surrounded by a garter stitch background. A simple, trellis-style lace pattern forms the outer border in a contrasting color.

Beginning with a knitted tab, similar to a garter tab, stitches are picked up along two of its edges, and the shawl is worked outward. The crescent shape is created by increasing stitches at several points along the right-side rows.

Both lace patterns are simple to work and would be suitable for an adventurous beginner. The size is easily customized, as the second color may be joined at almost any time.

  • The Updated Version used approximately 912 yds/834 m total: Color A: 200 yds/183 m, Color B: 188 yds/172 m, Color C: 186 yds/170 m, Color D: 170 yds/155 m, and Color E: 168 yds/154 m.
  • The Original Version was made with our Pearlescent Worsted yarn in colors (A) July Larkspur and (B) Crystal. The original sample used three skeins of Color A (550 yds total) and one skein of Color B (205 yds).
  • This shawl may be customized to almost any size. Repeat Rows 19 - 22 as many times as desired. To begin the border pattern, a multiple of 3 stitches, plus 2, is required. Before beginning Row 118, count the total number of stitches. If it is:
  • an even multiple of 3, then do not work the kfb in Row 118.
  • a multiple of 3, plus 1, then k2tog instead of kfb in Row 118.
  • a multiple of 3, plus 2, then proceed with Row 118 as written.
