Excerpt from Bargello Knits:

This design is from the earlier days of bargello knitting when I was exploring yarns to understand what they would do. I had not yet figured out the linked seams or that I could combine a bargello knit hat with standard crown shaping as in the previous project. Thankfully, you will not have to mimic the primitive skills I had then. This pattern is written using more modern techniques.

Pattern notes
Hat is worked from bottom to top starting with the circular needle and 2x2 ribbing. Bargello section is 12 segments of 7 sts divided into 2 sections of 6 segments each and worked on straight needles. “e stitches are placed back on the circular needle to resume working in the round. The top of the hat is gathered and tied with I-cord.
