This is a stash buster pattern to help you get a start on your Christmas knitting! It takes a single 200m skein of worsted weight yarn, or conversely, you could use a variety of worsted weight leftovers - just be sure to weigh them and wind each leftover bit into two equal balls.

I used one skein for the sample pictured in the pattern which was a women’s size 10 (US) and had plenty left to have made it larger.

This slipper sock features a four row/round mock cable stitch pattern that reminds me of barnacles, hence the pattern name! It is easy to do and remember. The pattern is done on the leg section, but after that, maintained only on the instep until toe shaping begins. It is much easier than it looks and as a variation of k2, p2 ribbing, is entirely at home in a sock/slipper.

I used a set of 3.25 mm double pointed needles to ensure a reasonably dense fabric. If you can, use a worsted yarn with a little nylon in it as it will last longer, especially if being worn on carpet.

Directions are included for women’s small, medium, large/XL.

These slipper socks can easily be knit up in a weekend or over a few evenings.

Please note: this is a free pattern. The L /XL size has been knit from these instructions. I will be making the other two sizes shortly.
