This pattern is a celebration of our return to The Netherlands after half a lifetime abroad. I wanted to make something typically Dutch. These beautiful canal houses can be found in any Dutch city.

This is a mosaic crochet pattern, where you will work on the right side only. Your work will curl, but this will be fixed by the border. The pattern consists of charts, and a detailed explanation of mosaic crochet including a photo tutorial. There is also a sample that can be used as a coaster.

I recommend making this sample, so you can determine your gauge and see which hook works best, you might need to go up or down a hook size. The gauge is 28 stitches and 29 rows to get 10 cm x 10cm.

The tote measures 33 cm in height, 35 cm in width and 3 cm in depth. I used 3 balls of Scheepjes Catona in bridal white (105), 3 balls in silver blue (528) and 1 ball in charcoal (393) When using different colors, make sure there is enough contrast between them.

I used a 3 mm hook for the foundation chains and a 2.5 mm hook for the rest of the tote.

Be aware - mosaic crochet is quite addictive!
