Basham beach is a relaxing asymmetrical triangle shawl knit in sections of stocking stitch and garter stitch, with simple mesh lace inserts. The shawl uses one 100g skein of a main colour – here featuring a speckled yarn – and less than half a skein of each of four complementary colours.

The shawl is shown in one size but is easily resizable by adding or subtracting pattern repeats, or by knitting in a thicker weight yarn.

Exact gauge is not crucial for this shawl but may affect the overall size.

The sample is knit in fingering/sock weight. It used the following amounts of yarn.

  • Main colour: 101g/364m (398 yds)
  • CC1: 40g/150m (164 yds)
  • CC2: 30g/120m (131 yds)
  • CC3: 32g/122m (133 yds)
  • CC4: 17g/50m (55 yds)

You may wish to allow for about +10% of the listed amounts to account for different knitting tensions.

The sample used these fingering/sock weight yarns:

  • Main colour: (speckled) Moseley Park Cungena “Cheiko”, 100g/3.5oz, 360m/394 yds per skein
  • CC1: (light blue) Rose Hip Island OzSock 80/20, 112g/3.95oz, 418m/457 yds per skein
