This is a basic 8ply sock pattern aimed at the first time sock knitter. It is knitted:

  • on double pointed needles;
  • in the round;
  • cuff down;
  • with a heel flap and gusset.

This pattern includes tips and techniques to eliminate any holes and will give you a good understanding of the basics of socks so that you can go on to knit finer weight socks and try different techniques.

To make it simple I have included the number of stitches to hold on each needle at various stages in the sock construction.

8ply sock wool (with high twist and 25% polymide) is not easy to come across but this pattern will work with any 8ply weight yarn.
