Gauge and hook size is not so important - use whatever suits your preferences. Hook size/yarn should be matches so that there are no apparent gaps in the finished project.

Using a standard acrylic yarn and 2.5 mm size hook, you will not need a great deal of yarn, so this may be a suitable scrap yarn project.
