A granny square got the entire motif movement started! At its most basic, it consists of groups of 3 double crochet and chain spaces.

This pattern offers my take on granny square construction. Each round begins with a stacked single crochet instead of the typical “ch 3”.

The traditional granny square offers so many possibilities for customization. You can make it in one color, use multiple colors or mix and match for an entire project like a blanket.
