This pattern is a basic pattern.

I have written this pattern for two lengths - one to reach the base of the ear and one, to reach mid-ear length. Being from a colder climate here in Ontario (our winters can be very cold!) I have a preference for my winter hats to cover my ears - but springtime/summer hats to be mid-ear length. I thought you might appreciate both lengths - just in case you experienced seasonal differences like us :)

This pattern is written in continuous rounds/spirals without a sl st to join or ch-1 (or ch-2). It produces a nice, neat hat without a seam.

Please note, you can use the slip stitch join method and a chain-1 option if you wish - just please try to keep those slip stitches small. It will add a little bit extra to the size of the hat and the visible seam.

If you are using cotton yarn - like Bernat Handicrafter Cotton - please use my Basic Half Double Crochet Hat Pattern for Medium Weight Cotton Yarn (posted February 6th, 2014).

Thanks!
