A very basic, beginner-friendly knit hair accessory that can be worn with any outfit and for any hairstyle.
It’s worked flat in short rows of garter stitch. Then, the ends are tied together and sewn with a tapestry
needle to form the knot. Step by step photos and video tutorial links are included for how to tie the knot
and knit smooth, even edges.

MATERIALS
• 1 skein of Lion Brand Touch of Alpaca or
207yds/190meters of medium worsted
category 4 yarn
• Size US 5/3.75mm knitting needles
• Removable stitch marker (optional)
• Tapestry needle (for sewing the knot)

FINISHED SIZE
Length: 21” / Width: 1.5” (approx. when flat
before tying the knot)
GAUGE
6 sts x 10 rows = 1” in garter stitch

Headband is worked flat in repeating rows of garter stitch. Use Long-tail cast on method. Slip the first
stitch of every row purl-wise, then knit the remaining stitches. Follow the photo tutorial in the pattern, and/or
watch the video tutorial for steps on knitting smooth, even edges. Headband
measures approximately 21” long when flat. To make longer or shorter, increase or decrease the number of rows
as desired. Use a tapestry needle to weave in the ends and sew the knot. Refer to the video tutorial and/or follow the photo tutorial in the pattern for steps on how to sew the knot.
