This is a pattern for a basic potholder or ovenglove. For a potholder or coaster just the bottom square is crocheted. Together with the top square you get a nice oven glove that has enough room for thumb movement and covers the hands from the fingertips to the wrist.

This pattern workes best with 8 or 10 ply cotton. Some stores even sell them as potholder yarn. The yardage given is for one oven gloves but depends a lot on yarn tension. If you are unsure buy an extra ball or be sure you can get more if needed.
