A very easy slouchy beanie worked from the top down in joined rounds of plain double crochet (US).

This pattern is written for an average sized adult woman’s head (22”). It’s important to measure your work across the circle to get the diameter. After round 3 you should have about 3.5” and after round 5 you need to be at just over 6”. If your beanie is between 6” and 7” after round 5 it’s probably ok but if it’s much outside that range you might need to work fewer or extra increase rounds before continuing the non-increase rounds for the sides.

Once you’ve made one, you’ll find it easy to make your own variations on the pattern for different sizes. Just google beanie sizes and you’ll see what diameter you need for different ages.

If you want to use a different yarn/hook combination, just experiment to get the fabric (drape) you like then start by working increase rounds until you get the diameter you need. Then carry straight on without increasing until it’s as slouchy as you like and long enough for a brim if you want one.

I’m happy to answer questions if you need a hand.
