This is a fast and easy project using worsted wool, Aran or a light bulky yarn. The thrums are easy to make and add a wonderful layer of warmth to the mittens. Gauge may seem a little looser than you would expect for a mitten, but the thrums make up for it. This mitten can stretch a bitso try it on as you go to adjust size the first time you knit one.

This is a simple mitten for beginners. Size is easily adjusted by using a smaller or larger needle or adding or taking away in 4 stitch increments. Various basic thrum patterns are charted and one is described in the pattern with written instructions. Pattern includes youtube links for demonstrations on creataing thrums and on doing the one-row thrum stitch.

Requires size 4 or 5 circular needle or double points for the mitten cuff and a size 7 or 8 circular or double points for the body of the mitten. You may want size 7 or 8 double points to make the tip of the mitten decreases and the thumb easier to knit.
