On my walk through Naples, I head to the Pizza Plebiscito. At daytime the piazza is almost empty, only a group of small boys play soccer under the arches of the church. I step into the freshness and twilight of the Basilica. I sit down silently and raise my head. The ceiling is like in the well-known Pantheon, the light comes in from the hole in the middle of the cupola which is beautifully decorated with square carvings.

These fingering weight socks are knit cuff down with a heel flap, using the Magic Loop method. A mosaic stitch pattern taken from the Basilica’s ceiling, decorates the leg. Easy and calming to knit, these socks provide warmth and peacefulness both while knitting and wearing them.

365 m (75 % Merino wool, 25 % polyamide, 365 m / 100 g)
MC: 1 skein or 137 (181, 228) 274 m / 150 (198, 250) 300 yds of fingering weight yarn.
CC: 1 skein or 65 (85, 108) 129 m / 71 (93, 118) 141 yds of fingering weight yarn.
Shown in colors Grey (MC) and Burgundy (CC).
Please note that any changes made to the leg or foot length will affect the amount of yarn needed.

Gauge
32 sts x 48 rnds = 10 cm /4” with 2.25 mm (US 1) needles in stockinette st in the round after blocking.
32 sts x 48 rnds = 10 cm /4” with 2 mm (US 0) needles in mosaic st in the round after blocking.

Needles
2.25 mm (US 1) – 100 cm / 40” circular needles, or as required to obtain gauge.
2 mm (US 0) - 100 cm / 40” circular needles for the mosaic section.
