A compact lace handbag inspired by maritime ropework.

Bátur is a compact, textured handbag from the Mariners Braid design family — a series exploring lace, braid motifs, and dense surface pattern inspired by maritime craft.

The name Bátur comes from Icelandic, meaning boat, and traditionally refers to the small coastal vessels that connect communities along Iceland’s rugged shoreline. Like its namesake, the Bátur bag is purposeful, durable, and elegantly simple.

Slightly smaller than its companion design Gozabune, Bátur offers a streamlined silhouette while retaining the richly textured lace panels that define the Mariners Braid collection. Vertical columns of lace evoke ropework and rigging, while linen stitch end panels add structure and durability.

The bag is worked seamlessly from the top down in the round. A shaped base is created using short rows — echoing sock heel construction — resulting in a sturdy, seamless foundation. The finished bag is lined and completed with a hand-stitched zipper and leather strap for a refined everyday accessory.

Bátur is worked with the chosen yarn held triple.
