Bawdens Highland
Trekking across the Bawdens Highland on the ECT’s Sugarloaf Path, the scenery all the way up to the very top is full of these colors. And yes I totally hiked up to the very top wearing the Bawdens Highland the entire way! (Disclaimer: if you visit St. John’s and attempt this trail, be prepared -- it is a rugged trail with many steep and bouldery bits, and it is a heck of a climb all the way to the top! Knitting this top, however, is a relaxing knit with a fabulous outcome to wear forever.)
Bawdens Highland has a drop-shoulder construction and is worked top down. The Upper Back and Front are worked flat from the shoulders to the underarm, with short rows shaping the shoulders and increases shaping the neckline. The Upper Back and Front are joined at the underarm and the Lower Body is worked in the round to the hem, with increases creating an A-line shape. Stitches are picked up around the neckline, and the neckband textured ribbing is worked in the round and finished with a 2-st I-cord bind off. Stitches are picked up around the armholes, and the lace ribbed edging is worked in the round.

Gauges
To find your needle size, you need to swatch.
Stockinette: 24 sts and 30 rows/rnds to 10cm / 4” using gauge-size needles
Lace Hem: 24 sts and 35 rnds to 10cm / 4” using gauge-size needles
Needles & Notions
The gauges were achieved with the following needle size. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.
3.5mm (US 4) circular needles either 80cm (32”) or 100cm (40”) in length depending on the bust circumference that you are making, and preferred needles for knitting small circumferences (armholes) in the round.
You will also need: spare interchangeable cables, spare needles or scrap yarn for holding stitches; stitch markers.
