This pattern came about because I wanted a tote to take to the beach. It had to be large enough to fit 2 towels, some sun screen, books and snacks. I wanted it to be knit loose enough that sand would fall through, but not loose enough that car keys would go missing. I chose to knit it out of 100% cotton so I could reshape it if it stretched too much.
Bottom is knit first in a contrast color, then stitches are picked up for the sides in the main color. Knit bottom up.
