The Beach Bum summer bag is a crochet project suitable for beginners. The bag can be completed in an evening or two, and the only stitches required are the chain stitch, single crochet, and slip stitch. Materials & tools:

Novita Kaisla ribbon yarn (50% recycled cotton, 50% polyester: 100g =197 m). You can also use other similar yarns with a recommended needle size of 5–6 mm. Depending on the bag size, you will need approximately 60–65 g/129-140 yds of yarn.

The trim on the small bag is crocheted using two strands of thinner cotton yarn held together. Suitable yarns are for example, Drops Loves U 9 (100% cotton: 50 g =125 m/137 yds) or Adlibris Cotton 8/4 (100% cotton: 100 g =340 m/372 yds).

The trim on the larger bag is crocheted using a single strand of Drops Paris Uni Colour (100% cotton: 50g =75 m). The trim requires only about 5 g of yarn.

You can, of course, crochet the trim and handles using the same yarn as the rest of the bag. Leftover yarn works well here, as there is no exact given gauge A cotton/synthetic blend is best for the bag, as it is durable and does not stretch out. Wool yarn is not recommended, as it is too elastic and lacks the necessary durability.
