INTRODUCTION:
I was simply inspired by the colours of this lovely fiber. I wanted the sweater to feel light, and elegant at the same time but casual enough to make it a staple in your wardrobe. The colours reminisce of the beach, so much needed to rejuvenate our solus. During long Canadian winters, especially in the Rocky Mountains, I dream of time at the beach.

I am always drawn to unusual construction techniques and playing with stitches running in different direction. This was the result. I love the simple lace, accentuated by sharp contrasting colour, running in the horizontal direction. Accented by simple stockinette stitch running vertically, it’s a smart and creative construct.

Overview of design/construction:

Knitted top down, it’s a fun and engaging knit. Extra stitches as cast on at the start of each lace segment, lace is knitted simultaneously attaching it to the body. Stitches are picked up from lace edge and top down construction continues.

Minimal seaming required at the end to seam each lace segment.
I chose to knit this top cropped with a 3/4 sleeve, but length in sleeve and body of the garment can easily be added. Note, modification will affect yarn usage. Sleeves are finished with the lace pattern as well to provide much needed continuity.

Lace is both, charted and written out for ease of knitting.

Skills required:
• Familiarity with top down sweater construction,
• Knit and purl and yarn overs,
• Picking up stitches along an edge,
• Working in the round with circular needles,
• Working small circumferences in the round on dpns, with magic loop or circular needles,
• Simple lace work,
• Working from chart recommended (written chart instructions are included),
• Picking up stitches for the underarm.
• Casting on sts mid work,
• German twisted cast on.
• Seaming
• Simple bind off purl wise.

Level of difficulty: Intermediate/Adventurous beginner
