Beaded Wildflower Mitts were born from a wish to hold on to a little bit of summer — capture the light of sun-lit meadows, the beauty of wildflowers, and carry the warmth of summer with you into the colder months.

Enjoy a 25% introductory discount through September 23. No code needed.

Worked in DK wool and embellished with delicate seed beads, these mitts were designed in collaboration with Sweet Paprika Designs using their squishy Cadenza yarn.

The mitts are worked sideways in garter stitch, with short row shaping for the thumb gusset and a seamless finish achieved through grafting. Along the way, you’ll learn how to work the long-tail provisional cast on, to string and place beads, wrap and turn, and graft in two directions.

KEY TECHNIQUES
pre-strung beaded knitting
long-tail provisional cast on
grafting (standard and reverse)

Every technique in this pattern is accompanied by a video tutorial.

TOOLS AND NOTIONS
pair US 1.5 (2.5 mm) knitting needles, or size to get gauge
2 stitch markers
stitch holder (waste yarn or silicone tubing recommended)
tapestry needle
beading needle and sewing thread
beading mat (optional)

Knitting Needles
Use 7.8 in (20 cm) long DPNs with point protectors, single-pointed or circular needles.

GAUGE
24 sts x 27 garter ridges in 4 in (10 cm)

Note that beaded garter projects require a denser gauge than usual. This extra density keeps the beads in place and prevents the garter stitch from over-stretching.
