Any worsted-aran weight yarn will work for this pattern, you should not need more than 180 yards unless you make the circumference bigger.

Beam Me Up is inspired by the beams used by UFOs to abduct all kinds of earth creatures. The crown of the hat is wrapped in beams that lead up to a UFO pom-pom. Knit in worsted to aran weight yarn, this results in the perfect weight hat for almost any hat season. This hat is in an average to slightly larger adult size, measuring at approximately 25 inches in circumference. It is knit bottom up from the cuff.

This is a slouchy beanie and it sometimes tends to get a little gnome-like. To combat this I recommend a pom-pom to anchor the top down. While I suggest adding a pom-pom to this hat it is still absolutely stunning without one. A good blocking would also fit the bill.

This pattern also features suggestions on how to alter the size of the hat for more customization.

In addition to the aran weight yarn and US 7 circular needles/DPNs, you will also need scissors, a tapestry needle, and pom-pom if that’s your jam.

This pattern was only tested by one tester, and is my debut pattern so feedback is welcome!
